Hi folks- Just some notes on the night of NFL Sunday Week 1:

  • First off, let me say this: sorry you didn't get many "tweets" from me today @chrislewisforum. The 10th Anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11 took priority for me today. Spent time with my kids watching the ceremonies around the country. I watched the national anthem with my children about six times today...and every time my littlest girl put her hand over her heart and sang along.
  • FANTASY NOTES:
    • Cam Newton- he is owned in 50% of CBSSports leagues. I imagine by Thursday that number will be 80% or more. And yes...if he is available in your league, you should try and get him. But I would NOT immediately plug him in the starting lineup...he won't be throwing for 422 yards every week. Newton was impressive, but in many cases he had receivers running WIDE open against the Cardinals secondary.
    • That leads to my normal speech about first week results: should you react? YES! But don't OVER-react. Kenny Britt is not suddenly Jerry Rice. I don't think Mark Sanchez will be throwing the ball 44 times a week. Rex Grossman? Please. And I think the Bengals will still stink, so Cedric Benson probably won't carry the ball 25 times a game because his team will be down 3 TD.
    • I do think that Steve Smith (CAR) has become relevant again because he has someone who can get him the ball deep.
    • I wonder what happened to the Cardinals targeting Larry Fitzgerald 15-20 times a game. Certainly didn't seem that way on Sunday. Kolb still had a very good day.
    • Position battles? Nothing really decided with the GB running game...Starks 12 carries, Grant 9. In Houston, Derrick Ward might be listed at #2, but Ben Tate is the guy to have for as long as Foster is out.
    • Beanie Wells? Great start. Need to keep it up in the coming weeks. Kolb had his most time to throw on play action passes...and that only happens if Beanie is successful.
    • JETS: Stop saying Shonn Greene is going to the workhorse and then giving him 10 carries? If you have such a good o-line, which you claim you do...it is OK to run him on 2 consecutive plays.
    • I saw an "expert" on NFL Network who said to be "brave enough" to sit Ray Rice against the stellar Steeler defense. I hope you were brave enough to not listen to him at all. Rice was not good against them last year. He was very good two years ago. Sunday he was terrific
  • GAME NOTES
    • The Cards better hope their young secondary gets better for next week. If they can't cover Brandon LaFell, they might have issues when they cover decent wideouts. And if they can't, DC Ray Horton will have to dial back on the blitzes. A rookie making his first start beat the blitzes for 400 yards.
    • Whatever the Jets pay special teams coach Mike Westhoff, it is not enough.
    • Tony Romo certainly didn't do anything to confirm that in the clutch, he folds up like a tent. The Cowboys will never win anything making the stupid mistakes that team makes in crucial situations.
    • Statement? Yes Ravens, that was LOUD and clear. Also making great week 1 statements were the Chicago Bears (who I completely dismissed in the preview last week), the Houston Texans (although the Colts are in HUGE trouble) and yes...the BUFFALO Bills. In Kansas City? Blowing them out like that? That's huge.
  • More notes during the week...be sure to tune into XTRA910 Thursday from 6-8 for the Fantasy Forum...Barry will be handling it SOLO this week...so give him a call! I'll keep answering your tweets at @chrislewisforum
