Justin Upton made his Braves debut last night in front of his teammate/ brother BJ and  the home Atlanta crowd. He was welcomed to a blustering ovation (Not keeping score but it trumped Martin Prado's D-backs welcome from the home fans) JUp was quiet in his first couple ABs, striking out in his first and flying out to rightfield. 

Upton then stepped to the plate for the third time against Cole Hamels, who struggled in his '13 debut giving up 3 home runs, and yes one of them was to the former D-backs right fielder. 

JUp made me feel at ease for picking him as this years NL MVP by crushing a 1-2 pitch way over the wall in left center field for a 450ft + Home Run

Opening Day for the D-backs, was strong to quite strong. Offensively, you'd be hard pressed to find a better game in the next 161(+?) games. Anytime you can knock Adam Wainwitght around for 11 hits (15 overall), offensively, yeah you've had a good game. Now don't let the giant extension he just signed with the Cardinals last week fool you though. This is not the 20 game winner from 2010 Wainwright, statically, had his worst season of his career coming back from arm surgery last season.  

Paced by 4 hits from Geraldo Parra out of the leadoff spot, the D-backs offense slugged out 15 hits and the only regular without a knock was off season addition SS Cliff Pennington.

IPK, Ian Kennedy was solid for 7 innings. He had a couple hard hit balls in the 1st from Matt Carpenter and Matt Holiday for back to back doubles for a run. Settled in, cruised to the 7th where he surrendered a 2 out run scoring single that cut the lead in half 4-2, then retired the side to complete his night 7IP 5H 2R 2ER 8K an efficient 94 pitches. 

This is what you should expect to see when the D-backs are going well this season. Stringing together hits and manufacturing runs. Don't get me wrong Chase plays small and the Snakes have guys with pop and they will hit their share of homers, but they will not live and die by the home run by any means. Also it always helps when you get 7 strong innings from your starter.

Chase Field had a great atmosphere last night the sell out crowd of 48.033 didn't get deafening but there was great positive vibe around the ball yard. D-backs brass, Derek Hall and gang kept the mood lite between innings with their popular commercial spoofs they worked on in the off season.

Quick note IPK was turning heads with his performance on the mound also had some fans curious with his walk-up music to the batters box, Taylor Swift's 'I knew you were trouble'  Not sure if this was an April Fools gag on the pitcher from his fellow hurlers or just showing off Kennedy's great sense of humor.

ManU strikers Dwight Yorke and Andrew Cole challenged Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck to play soccer "telepathically" 

Basically wear a blindfold and play soccer. The results are comical and also very impressive.
